Paddling & Pastries: Birding & Herping on the Lower LaPlatte River

  • Shelburne Bay Shelburne, VT (map)

Please join Kate Kelly (Lewis Creek Association) and Jim Andrews (Vermont Reptile & Amphibian Atlas) on Wednesday, July 2nd, 8:00-10:30 am for a paddle on the Lower LaPlatte River Marsh Natural Area. With sixty species of birds and fifty species of reptiles, amphibians and fish found in the natural area, we are sure to have a wonderful morning exploring on the water!

For over a decade, LCA and our volunteers have been working together to keep frogbit from taking over this important ecosystem, in addition to our work to improve water quality in the LaPlatte River and its tributaries, such as McCabe’s Brook, which ultimately flow into Shelburne Bay and Lake Champlain.

We have a limited number of kayaks, canoes, life jackets, and paddles available for people to use. If you would like to reserve one of these, please be sure to Sign Up Here soon! We also invite you to join us in your own kayaks and canoes on the water for the morning, but space is limited, so please Sign Up Here as well.

After our paddle, we will enjoy some pastries or other breakfast treats together as we recount the species we found!

We will send registrants an email a few days before the event, with details on where and when to meet. If you have any questions, please contact Sara Lovitz at sara@lewiscreek.org or 802 488 5295
