Join Lewis Creek Association for a multi-part “Ahead of the Storm” Tour of Hinesburg on both public and private land. Learn more about how we can best manage water to mimic natural processes, clean up our stormwater runoff, improve water quality in our rivers and lakes, and become more flood resilient.
We will begin with short presentations by LCA Program Manager Kate Kelly, and Jessica Clark Louisos, Principal Water Resources Engineer at SLR, at the United Church of Hinesburg’s Osborne Parish House.
We will then move outside to get an up-close tour of the nearly completed wetland restoration project behind the church. Next, we travel upstream to learn first-hand about the Silver Street rain garden on the corner of 116, and then cross the LaPlatte River to visit a wetland and floodplain restoration project, where beaver, otter and many other wildlife have been observed. Find out why the “dead trees” are an important part of this project. Lastly, we will head further upstream to visit the Beecher Brook floodplain restoration project near the Hinesburg Town Garage, which was completed in 2020.
Feel free to join us for all or part of the event!
What to Bring: Rubber boots or shoes you can get wet for exploring the projects.
