Lewis Creek Quinlan Bridge Flood and Erosion Study, 2010

This study was prepared by Milone and MacBroom Inc and South Mountain Research and Consulting in 2009-2010. It determined best management options for the stream corridor and the roadway infrastructure in the fluvial erosion hazard area at the Quinlan Bridge and Spear Street location. An important outcome was that regular ice jams at this locations are equivalent to 50 to 100 year flood events. This report was presented to the Town Selectboard in 2010 who chose to hold off on proactive work that could avoid bridge and highway damage due to high flows resulting from spring ice breaks, jams and high water flows. Adjacent landowners and the Agency of Natural Resources supported immediate work that could avoid predicted conflicts between the river and roadway infrastructure.
