LCA Tracking Cards

 

	The Lewis Creek Association (LCA) Tracking Cards are unusual because the tracks are shown full size. Some of them, such as the moose and bear tracks, are so large they run right off the edge of the cards! They’re also waterproof, so you can use them in snowy and muddy conditions—the best for tracking—without damaging them. You can place the cards on the ground next to a track you’re studying and see immediately which is the best match in size and shape without having to do any math (such as “If it’s 5/8 of an inch wide and 1/3 its normal size, how big is it?”).
Because track sizes vary depending on the substrate and the animal’s age, sex, and activity, these cards may not exactly match the tracks you find. But they’ll be close enough that you should be able to distinguish between related species (is it a house cat, bobcat or catamount?) and those that have the same walking pattern. Used with a field guide that gives details about gaits, behaviors, and habitats, these cards are a wonderful tool for wildlife tracking enthusiasts.
